At the time of writing, it is just 44 days to go until the 2012 Olympic Games!
Many people are now seriously starting to search for accommodation. Hotels are an obvious choice, but many of them are attempting to cash in on the Olympics, and have raised their prices by up to 5 times the normal rate!
Whilst the majority of the summer Games are being held in London, there are events being staged all over the U.K. as the map below shows:
So if hotels, B & B’s, or holiday cottages are not within your budget, an alternative option might be to hire a motorhome and book a campsite close to the event for which you have tickets.
Renting a motorhome could not be more simple and you can store your car with us throughout the hire period. We have four conveniently located depots that you can pick up from: Heathrow, Edinburgh, Bristol, and Cambridge.
Read our guide to choosing and renting a motorhome >>> here.
A quick search on the web will reveal a number of suitable sites that are available especially for the London Olympics and a number of temporary sites have been planned around London, many at sports grounds. The Caravan Club also have several sites which non-members can stay at (www.caravanclub.co.uk). If you intend to take your pet with you, phone the site and check whether is it pet friendly.
Finding a campsite or holiday park outside of London will obviously be easier than finding one close to the Olympic Park at Stratford and it may be worth considering staying at one further out and then driving to a station and catching the train into London. Finding somewhere in Dorset for the sailing or near Eton Dorney for the rowing should be much easier with a greater range of options available, including “flash” wild camping sites through to full service sites with electrical hook ups, toilets & showers.
As we have just re-structured our prices to make our motorhome hire the cheapest in the U.K., why not give hiring a motorhome serious consideration? It’s fun, flexible, convenient, and a much more individual experience than a bland hotel room.
